Drinking is a popular activity in countries all across the world. While many places allow its residence to drink at 18, the United States has minted a drinking age of 21 over the last quite some time now.  Although there is nothing wrong with drinking in moderation, people tend to easily get out of control, and start making poor decisions as a result of their alcohol consumption.  Even people who have been drinking for years can fall victim to the side effects of alcohol.  With that being said, it is not uncommon for people to give up drinking after realizing what it can do, and some people have even opted to life their entire lives without drinking alcohol.

He’s been sober since 1987, and works hard every day to make sure he stays that way.  During an interview Clapton stated: “I thought that if I stopped drinking and I stopped using drugs…I would not be able to play anymore. In other words, those were things that were necessary for inspiration. But it was a shortcut. My experience now tells me in a long time of being in recovery, that I can be a good musician with or without that philosophy.” Clapton also says that he believes he would have been dead right now had he not made the decision to be sober.
